I. Nature of the Business
Hyundai Motors Company is a Korean automaker which along with Kia comprises the Hyundai KIA Automotive Group. It all started with just one man, Mr. Ju-Yung who launched Hyundai in 1947 at the age of 32. At first it was a small vehicle repair shop. Then it grew, and became the Hyundai Auto Service Centre. 20 years later, Hyundai vehicle assembly was born. The Pony hatchback soon followed, and today, Hyundai is the fifth largest car manufacturer in the world. The Company also provides automobile maintenance services. The Company had 42 domestic subsidiaries and affiliated companies in India, China, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Slovakia and others. The company employs about 75,000 persons around the world. Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 6,000 dealerships and showrooms worldwide. In 2010, Hyundai sold over 1.7 million vehicles worldwide. Hyundai Motor Company get out of the purpose of organization which is pursuit of profit, recognize the role as a corporate citizen who consist of society. The company makes an effort to make a better world and development of human with all the stakeholders. As a result, in 2010, Hyundai Motor Company achieved the highest earnings through high quality, merchantability and brand marketing. This breakthrough performance based on continuous technology development and improving the quality, it recognized its value from around the world.
The automotive industries have characteristics that procuring raw materials such as steel and 20,000 components smoothly. Automotive manufacturing steel procure from POSCO and Hyundai Hysco where the world s largest steel company as a single company. On the other hand, procurement is divided into three paths; MIP parts which the car manufacturers directly produce, LP parts which procure from domestic component manufacturer, and KD parts which import from abroad. MIP parts are engine parts which is key part of a car, mission and forging parts.
